We are 80's babies, we love R&B and we fully represent for girls! Taking all of that into consideration, we were and still are in deep love with girl groups from the 90's. Think TLC, SWV, Total, Destiny's Child, Brownstone, Changing Faces... The list goes on and on!
This is why it brought such great sadness and heartache when we heard that Natina Reed, (top left) the rapper from 90's R&B group, Blaque passed away after being struck by a car last week. Although not as well known as some other girl groups from the 90's, those who knew, knew! Blaque were awesome! The R&B trio had two Hot 100 hits, "808" and "Bring It All To Me," from their self-titled 1999 debut album.
In 2000, all three band members appeared in the hit film Bring It On, as part of an inner-city cheerleading squad led by Gabrielle Union. Blaque kind of fell apart after 2001, when they were dropped from Columbia Records.
Dubbed the 'Lisa Left Eye of the group,' Natina leaves behind her 10 year old son, Tren Brown for ex partner, Kurupt (google him). To add even more sadness to this already tragic story, Natina died just before her 33rd birthday!
According to original band members Shamari Fears-DeVoe and Brandi Williams, Natina had recently reunited with Blaque and was working on a new album, along with a reality show, before she passed. She was truly taken far too soon, like many of our talented artists.
The two remaining band members issued a statement saying...“Natina continuously embodied the pioneering spirit of Blaque and her undeniable creativity touched the hearts of fans everywhere. Natina was a mother, sister, accomplished songwriter, artist and friend."
This is yet another sad loss for the world and especially for the music industry. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this sad time. My she rest in perfect peace. xx
